One Goal is Enough for Win
By Dave Monnerat
Centennial, CO - Friday night the Titans faced the very physical TNW Tools in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Titans had a three game winning streak, including a shutout by Bucky Khalap the week before in their victory over the Thouroughblades.
While scoring was non-existent in the first two periods, shots and penalties were not. The Titans went to the box five times in the first two periods, and TNW Tools sent four players to the sin-bin. Bucky Khalap was on fire, stopping all of TNW Tools shots through two periods. On the other end, the TNW Tools met Khalap's performance, keeping the score zero-zero going into the third.
"I knew we could beat these guys, " said Titan Captain Andy Munoz. "We just needed that one goal to get us ahead."
The third period showed Andy to be right. In another physical period with each team sending representatives to the penalty box, a goal at 7:14 into the period proved to be the game winner for the Titans. Andy Munoz fed Justin Barba who beat the TNW Tools goalie over his right shoulder, frustrating TNW Tools and providing the Titans with the momentum in the game and the ability to control play. In the end, Bucky Khalap's recorded his second shutout of the season, stopping all 34 of TNW Tools shots.
At the end of the game, Defenseman David Monnerat said, "We are a scoring team. If we score one goal, our track record shows that it will be a Titan's loss. Tonight, Bucky and the Titan defense proved to be the difference and that one goal was enough. Personally, I'd rather see five goals in our favor."
