The 2000 Spring Season Preview
By Rob Brown
Denver, CO - The 2000 spring season is about to start (March 25), and the entire roster is coming back after a year off with the exception of Crissa Doeppke. Two new additons to the team will be Frank Colella and Mark Pawlak. Colella will be in the starting lineup as a forward replacing Ken Morrison, who will be subbing this season. Pawlak will not be playing defense this season, instead he will be protecting the net as the Titan's new goaltender. Trying to reach their fourth chamionship, the Titans bring experience and should be very exciting team to watch with the talent they have.
Here is how the positons breakdown this season:
B Offense - Although the line has been drastically improved with the addition of Frank Colella, the Titans as a whole as lost some speed up front. The conditioning of the players should improve as the season goes on but for now, they must be aware of this and take shorter shifts on the rink. Passing has always been a crucial part of the Titan's game - but now just "passing" will not be enough. Execution will the key. The passes must be tape-to-tape and to the right person, if this offense wants be the #1 offense in the league again.
B+ Defense - The defense has everything they need to succeed in this league. They have the speed, the size and the talent to dominate. One problem that has always hurt the Titans is the amount of penalties the defense puts up in a game. If the defense can play with the same intensity but reduce the amount of penalty minutes, the Titans should see an improvement in all categories.
A- Goaltending - Mark Pawlak was a great goalie in his high school days and there is no reason why he can't be at Bladium. As with all ice hockey goalies, he will need some time to get used to the restrictions of inline hockey. His instinct and his natural abilities as a goalie should make him the top goalie on Saturdays - if not the entire Bladium. But after he gets used to being on inline skates - watch out!
