Titans beat Mystery Machine in Shootout
(Centennial, CO) - RJ McElwreath scored in the double shootout overtime and the Rocky Mountain Titans overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Mystery Machine 4-3 on Monday night as they continue their playoff run.
"I went down and tried to fake the shot, and he went down, and I shot it over him," said McElwreath, who beat John Redditt for his 2nd career game-winning goal. "It was a big game for us, a big win, and we need to keep it going."
"We are now in a good spot where we have control over our own destiny," said Titans captain Andy Munoz, who had a penalty for the night. "We are one game away from the league championship. We just have to keep building off of this and take it to the Chiefs. I thought we played pretty solid in the first two periods. We were down by a couple, but we still felt good about ourselves."
"I don't know what the Mystery Machine are feeling," Justin Barba said. "But we know we still have a lot of work to do. I think confidence is a big thing. You can't stress enough that when you put a good win streak together, you play with a lot of confidence, and right now we are believing in one another."
Barba, who hadn't had a three-goal night in six seasons, got a two-minute penalty for hooking with 3:30 left but the Titans killed the power play by clearing out the puck four times.
The Mystery Machine did manage to cool off Eric Allen, halting his goal streak at 3 goals in the playoffs.
"We wanted to make it hard on him," Mystery Machine forward Drew Davis said. "Just watching film we noticed the puck followed him around the ice.”
The Titans face the Chiefs in the league lower bracket semifinals, Wednesday night at 10:00pm MST.
